About Me

Adding a Little Spring Décor

With the long harsh winter nearly over, I am excited about the wonders of spring. I can’t wait to unpack my spring wardrobe from storage. I’m also looking forward to spending some time outdoors in my flower garden. However, before I venture outdoors, I need to give the inside of my home some attention by adding a little spring décor. During this time of year, I decorate my home with pastel, bright hues. For instance, I like to fill white dainty teacups with beautiful artificial flowers. I also like to display whimsical items such as a multicolored Easter bunny. On this blog, you will learn how to transform the interior of your home this spring.

Pretty Ideas For A Botanical-Themed Sunroom

by Melinda Collins

A sunroom is a boon to your indoor living. Indeed, it can serve as a transitional space between the indoors and outdoors. A charming theme for your sunroom comes from old botanical print books. Create an attractive sunroom by giving it a botanical-themed makeover.

Backdrop

The foundation of any interior design is the backdrop you provide it. This often comes in the form of a color scheme. With a botanical theme, white is often the base color. Naturally you'll want to add other colors as accenting, but white makes a stunning backdrop for the botanical images. If you want to keep the walls from looking stark, consider adding texture in the form of trim or all-white wallpaper. For instance, you could add a chair rail with beaded board below.

Mini Jungle

Another aspect of the backdrop comes in the houseplants you choose. Sunrooms are commonly spaces for growing lush plants. What's more, you'll want live plants to accentuate your botanical theme. Choose tropical plants as these provide an especially lush backdrop. Home and Garden TV identifies the following tropical plants as relatively easy to grow:

  • Chinese evergreen
  • Dwarf shefflera
  • Philodendron
  • Rubber tree

For placement, choose one or two tall plants for the back. Add an accent table or small shelf to further elevate shorter plants, and place it off to the side. Finally, finish by placing one or two leafy plants in front. This creates a mini jungle effect.

Botanical Print Furniture

Quite often the botanical theme takes its inspiration from a print. In this case, consider choosing furniture with a botanical print. These are usually comprised of white fabric with bold, colorful plants imprinted. However, if this seems too overwhelming, consider choosing a single botanical print furniture item or even a set of throw pillows. The rest of the furniture can be white or solid colors found in the print itself.

Bird-Themed Tableau

You want to give your sunroom character of its own. One method for doing this is by creating a tableau, in this case a bird-themed one. Place an accent table against a plain wall. Add a pretty novelty bird house. This can be in any print that catches your fancy, but try to echo at least one or two colors from your botanical prints. Look for one or two bird sculptures to place around the bird house. You can also select a bird print to hang just above and behind the bird house. Finish the look with a small plant or two.
